Make sure your door is ready for a smart lock

Most standard front doors can support a smart lock, but it is worth checking before you order. A quick compatibility check can help avoid installation problems and returns.

What to check

1. Door thickness

Measure the thickness of the door itself, not the frame.

Many standard U.S. exterior doors fall within a common smart lock range, but always check the product page for the exact supported door thickness.

2. Backset

Backset is the distance from the edge of the door to the center of the lock hole.

Common U.S. backset sizes are:

• 2-3/8 inches
• 2-3/4 inches

If your door uses a non-standard backset, check compatibility before purchase.

3. Existing lock type

LNDU smart locks are generally designed for standard deadbolt-style installations, depending on model.

Please check carefully if your door has:

• Mortise lock
• Double-cylinder deadbolt
• Integrated handle-and-lock system
• Unusual cutout
• Reinforced metal frame
• Apartment or rental lock restrictions

These setups may require extra confirmation before purchase.

4. Door condition

A smart lock works best when the door opens, closes, and locks smoothly.

Before installing a smart lock, check that:

• The door is not warped
• The bolt moves smoothly
• The strike plate lines up properly
• You do not need to push or lift the door to lock it

If your current deadbolt already sticks or feels misaligned, fix that first before installing a smart lock.

What you may need

For many standard installations, you may only need basic tools such as a screwdriver. No wiring is usually required for typical battery-powered smart locks.
